About the START Program

Rationale

The University takes immense pride in the growing socio-economic diversity within its student body. An increasing number of students from less-privileged backgrounds are becoming integral members of the Lasallian community, facilitated by expanding scholarship opportunities.

While financial assistance helps address tuition costs, many students face challenges in meeting other essential needs such as meals, transportation, class projects, and extracurricular activities. Unfortunately, the University’s resources alone are insufficient to fully address these additional burdens.

To support students in a more holistic way, it is essential to offer opportunities that go beyond financial aid, focusing on their personal and professional growth.

In response, the University has introduced the Student Assistantship and Resource Training (START) program. This initiative, open to both undergraduate and graduate students, is designed to provide not only financial support but also valuable opportunities for skill development. Students selected for the program will receive an allowance while gaining hands-on experience that enhances their academic journey and equips them with practical skills for future success.

Managed by the Office of Admissions and Scholarships (OAS), the program connects students with financial assistance while fostering growth in key areas. The University is dedicated to supporting students in achieving academic and professional success through a well-rounded, inclusive approach.

Objectives

The START program aims to:

  1. provide financial assistance to students in need;
  2. assist students in obtaining practical/work skills and experience;
  3. build students’ interpersonal skills in the workplace;
  4. assist students in developing contacts, references, and recommendations;
  5. provide the University an opportunity to scout for top student assistants for potential full-time job offers after graduation; and
  6. immerse students in the Lasallian work environment.
