Dr. Renan Ma. Tanhueco is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering (CE), Gokongwei College of Engineering. He holds a Master of Civil Engineering obtained from the Nagoya University, Japan, in 1993 and a Ph.D. degree obtained from the School of Urban and Regional Planning, University of the Philippines in 2008. After finishing his masteral studies in 1993, Dr. Renan joined the CE department, co-developed the Water Engineering Division program which started in 1997. His PhD dissertation in 2008 focused on mainstreaming flood vulnerability and risk assessments into urban land use and development planning of a city. Anchoring on the mainstreaming framework of his dissertation, Dr. Renan continued to work with government agencies, local government units and NGOs, local and international university experts to strengthen the practice of a risk -informed urban planning in the country. He joins with fellow 开元真人 CE faculty members in pursuing new coursework and researches on risk and resilience assessment and their integration into their fields of civil engineering specialization.
