Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering
The Industrial Engineering Program of ¿ªÔªÕæÈËis designed to cater to the ever growing demand for extensively-trained and highly-qualified Industrial Engineers in the Philippines.
Industrial Engineering is the disciplined, systematic, and holistic approach on the management of human resources, equipment, materials, capital, energy, information, and its environment. It covers three major areas of study, namely: Production/Operations Management, Operations Research or Management Science, and Human Factors Engineering or Ergonomics. The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering is recognized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as a Center of Excellence.
At present, three undergraduate programs are being offered by the department:
(1) Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering (BS IE),
(2) Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering with specialization in Information Technology (BS IE-IT), and
(3) Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering with specialization in Service Management (BS IE-SM).
Along with these, three honors programs leading to a master degree in Industrial Engineering are likewise offered:
(1) Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Industrial Engineering (BS/MS IE),
(2) Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering with specialization in Information Technology and Master of Science in Industrial Engineering (BS IE-IT/MS IE)), and
(3) Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering with specialization in Service Management and Master of Science in Industrial Engineering (BS IE-SM/MS IE).
Vision
We envision ¿ªÔªÕæÈË-ISE to be an internationally recognized academic leader in creating, disseminating, and applying systems engineering innovations to spearhead sustainable industry and national development.
Mission
Our mission is to create knowledge, promote innovation, and design systems improvements for the benefit of industry and government by: (1) crafting relevant curricula; (2) mentoring students to be technically competent Industrial Engineers and life-long learners; and (3) conducting progressive researches geared towards national and international development.
We shall be guided by faith, ethics, and morals in our pursuit of efficiency, proficiency, and sustainability.
Program History
The Industrial Engineering Program of ¿ªÔªÕæÈË was established in 1971 to address the growing demand for Industrial Engineers in the Philippines.  At that time, the name of the program is Industrial Management Engineering (IME) with two options for minors: Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. These two minors were offered because the industry’s need for engineering managers in manufacturing plants.
Due to the CHED directive to standardize all Industrial Engineering programs in the country, ¿ªÔªÕæÈË phased out the minor in Chemical and Mechanical Engineering in 1997 and offered BSIE. However, a tracer study conducted by the department in 2000 showed that many graduates of the program had careers in Information Technology and Service Management. This led to the offering of the BSIE minor in Information Technology and Service Management in 2005.
The department also offered the ladderized program in Industrial Engineering, which allows a student to earn both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in a span of five years. This program caters to excellent students who have obtained a grade point average of 3.2 or better at the end of their junior year.  The department had been very successful in recruiting students to take this program since its introduction in 2011.
Graduate programs in IE started to be offered in 1992 with the Master of Science in Industrial Engineering (MS IE). Â This was followed by the non-thesis program, Master of Engineering Program in IE (MEP IE) that caters to graduate students who are working in the industry.
The PhD program in ¿ªÔªÕæÈË started in 1996.  It was offered to cater to the needs of academic institutions offering Industrial Engineering to send their staff for advanced studies.  Until now, ¿ªÔªÕæÈË is the only institution in the country offering PhD in IE.
From Industrial Engineering Department, the name of the department was changed to the Department of the Industrial and Systems Engineering effective 2019.
