Undergraduate Degree Programs

The degree courses offered by the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering include the following:

Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering (BS IE)

The BS Industrial Engineering program is a disciplined, systematic, and holistic approach to the management of human resources, equipment, materials, capital, energy, information, and its environment. 聽It covers three major areas of study, namely: Production/Operations Management, Operations Research or Management Science, and Human Factors Engineering or Ergonomics. 聽It seeks to design and/or improve systems to achieve maximum efficiency, effectiveness, quality, and investment return; to minimize waste, losses, and costs; to improve employee satisfaction, welfare, and performance; and to manage impact of business operations on its environment.

The BS IE curriculum aims to develop critical system thinkers and innovators in the practice of the IE profession. The curriculum ensures transformative learning to the students in completing their academic units.

BS IE students will complete the regular course in four years.聽 The curriculum consists of a total of 201 units of academic courses and 9 units of non-academic courses. The academic courses include 9 units of electives on special topics in Industrial Engineering, 2 units capstone design project, 2 units thesis study, and 3 units of on-the job-training (3 months of full time company practicum).

 

Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering with specialization in Information Technology (BSIE-IT)

A tracer study conducted by the department in 2000 showed that many graduates of the program had careers in information technology. This led to the offering of the BSIE minor in Information Technology program in 2005.

The BS IE with specialization in IT program combines the training of Industrial Engineering, which emphasizes on designing and improving processes, with creating information systems that would enable business operations achieve high productivity and quality. It also seeks to provide business solutions through information technology that would help manage business effectively and at the same time eliminate waste of time, money, materials, and energy.

All major courses under the BS IE with specialization in IT program are the same courses taken up by the BS IE student except for the electives which include: Visual Basic Programming, Designing Systems, Database Management, Managing IT Projects, and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems.

BS IE-IT students will complete the regular course in four years.聽 The curriculum consists of a total of 204 units of academic courses and 9 units of non-academic courses. The academic courses include 12 units of Information Technology subjects, 2 units capstone design project, 2 units thesis study, and 3 units of on-the job-training (3 months of full time company practicum).

 

BS in Industrial Engineering with specialization in Service Management (BS IE-SM)

A tracer study conducted by the department in 2000 showed that many graduates of the program had careers in Service Management. 聽This led to the offering of the BSIE minor in Service Management in 2005.

The BS IE with specialization in SM program combines the training of Industrial Engineering, which deals with the design, development, management and improvement of services towards customer satisfaction. 聽It highlights application of service operations management principles in retail, restaurant, banking and health care service systems. 聽It seeks to train students to emphasize on quantitative analysis involving the conceptualization, design, creation, and delivery of services that would lead to minimal waste in time, money, materials and energy. 聽In addition, the program has industry partnership in the field of retail, banking, restaurant and health care systems.

All major courses under the BS IE with specialization in SM program are the same courses taken up by the BS IE student except for the electives which include: Service Management, Service Management Applications, Retail System and Services, Banking System and Services, Retail System and Services and Health Care System and Services.

BS IE-SM students will complete the regular course in four years.聽 The curriculum consists of a total of 204 units of academic courses and 9 units of non-academic courses. The academic courses include 12 units of Service Management subjects, 2 units of capstone design project, 2 units thesis study, and 3 units of on-the job-training (3 months of full time company practicum).

 

BS / MS Honors Program for Industrial Engineering

The BS/MS Honors Program covers all the three programs in Industrial Engineering. 聽The program consists of 14 terms designed for students with exceptional academic and research skill. The student is awarded both a Bachelor Degree and Master Degree in Industrial Engineering upon completion of all academic requirements. The student starts taking their MS courses on the eighth term.

The student needs to have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 and minimum grade in all Math, Engineering Science and Professional Courses of 2.0. 聽Upon entry into the program, students must continue to satisfy these criteria at the end of each academic term. 聽If the student fails to observe the retention requirements, the student will be returned to the regular BS Industrial Engineering program tracks.

BS/MS students will complete this honors program course in four years and two terms.聽 The curriculum consists of a total of 222 units of academic courses (with additional 21 units of Masteral subjects) and 9 units of non-academic courses. 聽The academic courses include 9 units of electives on special topics in Industrial Engineering, 2 units capstone design project, 9 units thesis study, and 3 units of on-the job-training (3 months of full time company practicum).
